我們身處在數位時代之中，歷史的資料尋找、探勘使用和描述都出現了很大的變化。台灣歷史學界在中央研究院、圖書和博物館、業界和對岸資料庫的建置浪潮中，逐步開起了史料數位化的過程；自2002年起更推動所謂「數位人文」計畫，進一步加速了力道；現今歷史學界地理資訊系統（GIS）、社會網絡分析（SNA, Social Network Analysis）、文本分析和文本標記都有一些不錯的成果展示。然而，數位化不僅僅是幫助歷史家進行更大跨度，跨系統間的關聯性檢索而已；數位化壓縮、虛擬空間的再造能力可能更值得我們注意。歷史的「再現」，於今不再限制於文字的描述，圖像的片斷想像。近年CCC創作集、台灣吧所引起的注目，只是起點。
數位時代的史料性質同樣正在進行改變，除了過往文獻的數位化外，當代的資料很多是以數位化的型態的存在。網頁內容不見得像文獻紙本能保存的更久。黃銘崇對台灣318學運的數位資料的資料建置工作推對即是奠基於此。從當代史料的產生，鑑別到使用，以及對未來的歷史學將進行更多元的反思？更重要的是，在資料之外，未來歷史的表述勢必有新的發展與展演的形式。目前學界尚乏相關系統性的課程訓練與設計。近年AR和VR的運用已經開始普遍，技術資本門檻限制也隨著產業發展已經降低，這一趨勢將有利於過去受限於資本和技術的限制，能夠尋求更多元的呈現歷史方式。有鑒於此，本課程將進行歷史學對數位媒材概念進行引導、探討，議題創作與進行基礎性製作的訓練。

From the generation, identification to use of contemporary historical materials, and more diversified reflections on future history? At present, there is still a lack of relevant systematic curriculum training and design in the academic community.
