釐清這些經驗有助於我們進行 Käufer 與 Chemero 眼中「最重要、最富有成效的現象學核心 分支」 (the central, most important, and most productive strain of phenomenology) 所進行的主要工作,即「說明是什麼結構使得共享的客觀世界能夠被理解」 (to provide an account of the structures that make a shared, objective world intelligible) (2021: 2)*。
*Käufer, Stephen, and Anthony Chemero. 2021. Phenomenology: An Introduction. Second Edition. Medford, MA: Polity. This course takes a broad phenomenological perspective and examines how relationships between people and ourselves shape our experiences. Students who are willing to choose courses should note that the current course plans are still subject to change, so students must attend the first class to accurately grasp the specific course content. As currently planned, this course focuses on the dialogue between phenomenology and British and American philosophy, so we will not discuss classic texts on phenomenology. Instead, we will look at the work of contemporary scholars and consider how they combine ideas from within and outside the phenomenological tradition to analyze our experience and the role of others in it. These experiences include auditory hallucinations, schizophrenia, anxiety, trauma, empathy, shame, and more. Clarifying these experiences helps us do what Käufer and Chemero see as "the central, most important, and most productive strain of phenomenology"—that is, "telling what To provide an account of the structures that make a shared, objective world intelligible” (2021: 2)*. This perspective on phenomenology will be what this course attempts to explore.
Students should also note that although this course is classified in the Goodness and Duty group, we will not directly discuss ethical issues. The reason for this classification is that the experiences discussed in this course have potentially important ethical implications. By discussing these experiences themselves, this course hopes to provide some theoretical foundations and encourage students to further think about the possible connections between phenomenology and ethics in the future. However, this course will not cover a discussion of these possible connections.
