Course Target

Please think carefully... Please think carefully... Please make sure this course is suitable for you before choosing a course. First, this course uses a film exhibition as the main focus of the course, with post-viewing explanations or responses to students’ questions. Expect each class to be a relaxing night of study. Second, in this course, although some videos can be watched on the media platform, once you sit in the classroom, there are planned course arrangements. You must pay attention and participate in the whole process. "Strictly isolate your mobile phone". Violators will be asked to leave. classroom. Cutting off mobile phones, computers and surfing the Internet in class is also learning. This course attaches great importance to students' "integrated" qualities and hopes to be able to take root in the following concepts - (1) Biodiversity is dynamic and the result of long-term evolution; the relationship between organisms and organisms, as well as organisms and the environment are inseparable; (2) Understand the mechanism of evolution from the aspect of genetic inheritance and integrate evolutionary biology and humanities and social sciences through cross-field research. (3) Human beings are still a part of the biosphere and even play an important role, and environmental ethics should be respected; (4) Equip yourself with enthusiasm and practical ability to serve nature. Biodiversity is a discipline that can consider the variation and changes of organisms from various levels, and involves the integration of anthropology, environmental science, humanities and social science issues. From the genetic variation of the same species to a series of species, a series of genera, families and even higher taxonomic levels, and even the diversity of ecosystems are included. This course will analyze how biological species form biological societies (communities), understand what "species diversity" looks like; interpret "genetic diversity" composed of many different genotypes among different individuals within the same group; interpret biological communities and the physical environment form various ecosystems. "As long as biological diversity is recognized as an irreplaceable public resource, then its protection should become part of the Code," said E. O. Wilson, "Life in Color." In other words, contact with biodiversity is serious and behavior should be moderate and regulated. This course will use various media information (videos, illustrations, guides) to care about the genes, evolution and biodiversity issues of Taiwan, the world, and special species or environments. The course content is divided into six chapters: the first part is general knowledge, the second part is about evolution, the third part is exploring biological diversity, the fourth part is understanding biological diversity, and the fifth part is life and environment, sustainability and ethics.

Course Description

General courses are different from professional courses. They actually focus on guiding students to actively care for, explore and practice the ultimate value and wisdom of mankind. At the same time, the knowledge provided by general courses is not the superficiality of professional courses, but basic knowledge with a solid sense. . Based on the school’s founding tradition, school motto and school philosophy, the school has formulated four basic qualities for general education: truth-seeking quality, belief quality, practical quality and general quality, in order to concretely implement the school’s ideals of general education. We hope that our students can develop their independent learning spirit and gradually develop their basic literacy in general education under the guidance of general education teachers, and look forward to lifelong learning. Each basic literacy has specific learning effectiveness indicators for self-examination of teaching and learning effectiveness, which are described below: Truth-seeking literacy (natural field): 1. Learn the methods or philosophy of natural science to explore physics and the subtleties of the living world, 2. Use the spirit of discussing matters as they are, 3. Be able to participate in public affairs related to scientific issues. Belief literacy (humanities field): 1. Learn the humanistic spirit to explore the inner self and understand the deep value of human civilization, 2. Develop self-discipline, 3. Be able to use reason for moral reasoning. Practical literacy (social field): 1. Use social science methods or philosophy to stimulate students' listening and communication skills, 2. Recognize and respect diversity, 3. Practice the spirit of democratic deliberation. Hongtong literacy (cross-field): 1. Pursue the overall value of human beings, 2. Integrate qualities such as truth-seeking, faith, and practice into personal life. Courses in various fields can choose from different learning outcome indicators, so there is no need to be rigid.
