本課程是希望透過自由民主在台灣施行的經驗，瞭解落實公民文化的成就與困境。在方法上是從歷史的回溯，梳理自由民主社會的發展的軌跡，其中包括各種思潮與治理制度的變遷，並深入淺出的介紹「激進左派」「保守右派」，到底是什麼意思？
兩種截然不同的主張，如何影響我們的價值觀與世界觀，更牽涉到社會主義與資本主義，以及社會文化。此外,是人權保障的「進」（人權保障的落實）與「退」（人權保障遭逢的困境）的分析。期望學生可以深入理解當代各種主義的機會與限制，作為我國持續推動自由民主發展的知識基礎。This course hopes to understand the achievements and difficulties of implementing civil culture through the experience of liberal democracy in Taiwan. The method is to look back at history, sort out the development trajectory of liberal democratic society, including the changes in various ideological trends and governance systems, and introduce in simple terms what "radical left" and "conservative right" mean.
How two completely different propositions affect our values and worldview involves socialism and capitalism, as well as social culture. In addition, it is an analysis of the "advance" (implementation of human rights protection) and "retreat" (difficulties encountered by human rights protection) of human rights protection. It is expected that students can have a deep understanding of the opportunities and limitations of various contemporary doctrines, which will serve as the knowledge base for our country to continue to promote the development of liberal democracy.
